My name is Jamie Martinez, and I'm joined by Alex Chasen, Nick Atkinson, and special guest, Kaden Johnson. Oh, yeah. Let's not try to save it for later. Sadly, this is going to be my last podcast. Not sadly.
[00:00:50] I do my job so bad, actually. I'm getting fired and I'm getting replaced by. No, I'm not getting fired, but I'm getting replaced by Kaden Johnson, who I'll let him introduce himself. I'm putting you on the spot, but in a second. I'll let you introduce yourself in a second. He's no new person to this radio station. He's been here for a minute. He's an elite guy. I'll let him talk about himself in a second here. But why am I leaving?
[00:01:12] I just can't stand these guys.
[00:01:16] I can't stand them. No, for real. I just got a lot on my plate. I'm involved with a lot here on campus with different media, news organizations, and I just kind of want to put some more focus on those things. And I don't really have the. I'm not able to put as much time and effort into this. Maybe down the line, I'll come back, we'll be a four man group or I'll make some special appearances. I definitely won't be gone forever, that's for sure. I won't be gone forever. But I cannot right now sustain continuing doing this podcast, sadly. But who's taking over my spot? Some random guy named Kaden Johnson. I'll let you explain yourself. All right, what's up, everybody? I'm Kaden. I worked here at the station just as long as these guys. I'm on the fourth and goal show and the game day show on live air every Saturday for college football. I write for the women's soccer team, and last year I covered men's basketball. So I have a little bit of experience with the sport. Happy to be here and ready to take Alex's role as the Jason Tatum fan on the podcast. Right on. He's a Celtics fan, but he's from know all Celtics fan. Listeners do not need to worry about Alex leaving because now you get Kaden, right? Basically.
[00:02:29] So why are you a Celtics fan? Being from Alabama, being from know, you don't really have a whole lot of choices with professional sports teams, so you kind of pick a random team when you grow up. And my random reason for picking the Celtics was just because my dad was rooting for them. So really I just picked up whoever my dad rooted for. Celtics being one of those. It was easy to fall in love with them. I tried to model my game back when I was playing jv or junior high. Even like Isaiah Thomas, he was a big inspiration. So really, I've just fallen in love with the Celtics over the years. That's awesome. That's awesome. But what are we doing on my last podcast? Well, we've never done this before. I mean, we've done guess that player, I think probably like three or four times. But we are doing guess that player today by their voice, something never done on the full court press podcast. And we're doing my God, on 55. It took us 55 episodes to figure out to do this idea, but we're doing it. And let's just start it right off. We'll start off. Actually, let's talk about the plan. Talk about the plan real quick because we had some games last night, Celtics versus pacers and then Pelicans versus the kings. Nick, what's your take on that first game there, Celtics versus pacers? Kind of an upset, but also, I mean, halliburton, you know, I didn't watch much of it, but I thought it was all right.
[00:03:46] I just saw that Tyrese Halliburton played really good and he's a lot better than Dear Fox, that is a debate now. That's fine. No, Jamie, fro Jamie, that is a debate now. Halliburton over Fox, question mark there. So I think it's close. Tyrese Halliburton has definitely made a name for himself this year, made himself a household name with what he's been doing, passing the ball, efficiency and scoring wise. Darren Fox has also stepped up his game. He's averaging over 30 points a game. He's had 16 assists the other night. He's doing his thing, and they're both phenomenal. So to each their own, you could choose who's who. I think Tyrese Halliburton is the better player right now. Coming as a Sacramento Kings fan, Halliburton has been incredible, and he's on pace to be a first team, all NBA type of guy.
[00:04:28] So shout out to what he's doing, he's been phenomenal. And he was the main part in taking down the Boston Celtics, who were looking unbeatable. So shout out, Halle. I will say I'm not really mad about it. We got bigger aspirations. We were down KP, who's recovering from like a calf strain, something like that. So I'm not really disappointed, but the same issues are the same issues. We can't close out games. We're up near the end, it's going back and forth, and then the Pacers take like a massive ten point lead with like two minutes left. The same issues over and over again. Second game, though. Kings Pelicans. I did not see that one coming. But CJ's back. He had a pretty good game as the Kings fan in the room. Probably the only one on this campus. Probably. Actually, no. I actually saw a guy a few days ago rocking a king sweatshirt. No way. I'm not lying. I don't even have a king sweatshirt. Fake? Yeah, of course I am. No, but for real, though, how do you feel about that game? And why do you think you lost that one? Definitely unfortunate. The Pelicans just have our number. This is their third win against Sacramento this season. That makes them three. And it was in Sacramento they had the home court advantage but couldn't get it done. Harrison Barnes not have a good night. Four points in 34 minutes isn't going to get it done. Keegan Murray just has struggled offensively since coming back. Sabonis had himself a night 26 point triple double with 13 rebounds. Fox had himself 30 points, but it wasn't really his typical 30 points. He was missing from the line, wasn't as efficient as you usually see him be. So, an unfortunate loss. But the Pelicans, they're phenomenal, and I think they very well deserve to win the whole thing because I love what they're doing. Even with Zion only playing limited minutes, that was crazy to me. So shout out, New Orleans. They're really good right now. And then tonight, Lakers versus the Suns and then Knicks versus the Bucks. Who's advancing to Vegas out of those teams?
[00:06:09] I'm taking this in New York, I was going to say Phoenix and New York. I just think the Lakers like winning irrelevant things. So I feel like I could definitely see them just beating everybody by a lot. Everybody's like, oh, Lakers are going to win the championship now. It's over. LeBron, he's 39. It's the King James. He's going to do it again. No, I can see it happening, but I'm going to take Phoenix and I'm going to take New York. How about you, Kaden? I like New York a lot for sure. I'm a lot more confident about that pick than the other game. But as for New York, I think Jalen Brunson elevates his game in big time games. And then as for the Bucks, I don't know if I trust Giannis and Dame just yet in those winter go home games. I think this is really like their first big game of the year. So I like the Knicks winning that one for the west game. I'm going to lean Lakers right now. I like what Anthony Davis has been doing there this year. I think his game in the post is going to be hard for Phoenix to stop. That's why it's so interesting though, because it's not like you have seven games to figure it out. It's one game and you're done. That was a Celtics downfall last night. But now that we got some play in stuff out of the way, let's jump into guess that NBA player by their voice. We'll start off with Nick like we always do. Kaden doesn't have any clips for us, but he'll be a guesser. He'll be a guesser. So we're not going to do it like we've done before. Where Nick asks me and I asked Jamie, so on and so forth. Nick's going to play it and then I'll play it and then Jamie will play his. We got four each. And then whoever's not playing the sound, obviously we'll just guess and whoever gets it first gets the point. I think that's fair. Rad, you got know obviously we feel good about this game but Ray Allen's not going to miss all of his shots on Thursday night. That's not going to happen.
