[00:00:51] Speaker A: Hold my hand, let me stare by your side through this never ending night. I can feel it now. [00:01:01] Speaker B: It haunts me. Demon, tell me. [00:01:05] Speaker A: Surround me in this red light. Because me he is reaching out the dark door. Where's my love of this mark? [00:01:29] Speaker B: Hello, everyone, and welcome back to goblets and gays. This is the start of campaign two, tyrant of the dark star. This is our first character prologue. I'm going to turn it over to my players to introduce themselves and at least just tell you the name of their character. Other important details we will figure out later. [00:01:58] Speaker C: Well, hello. Yes, hi, I'm dusty. I use they he pronouns, and I'm going to be playing Eurydo. Their pronouns are he they. [00:02:10] Speaker A: Hello, I'm Ferris. I use she her pronouns, and so does Alouette baller. We're just doing names. Done. [00:02:22] Speaker B: It is almost 100 years to the day that the tyrant appeared in the sky and blocked out the sun. We open on a cell. You hear the sounds of cold iron prison all around you. In this cell, there is straw on the floor, a questionable few bucket or two. It's best not to look too far, too close at those. And in the corner, there is a curled up shape. But that one isn't too important right now. What is important are these two people brought into frame. Their clothes have seen better days, and they have bags over their heads. Currently, they are shoved into the cell and the doors are closed. I bet you're probably wondering how they got here. So let's answer that question, jump back in time. It's been a bit. You're honestly not sure how long you've been in this predicament. So let's start with Yuri. It is a day, you know, you are doing what you do, and you have some information. You have a possible job. It's more of just a rumor that if you can figure it out and solve this problem, you'll probably get paid. And the rumor you've been hearing around is in coffin walk, the district with. It's called coffin walk for a reason. People are crammed together in small spaces. Spaces with barely any room. And people have been going missing more than usual. More than somebody getting out or just violence that claims lives. And from what you can tell, there's nobody really looking into this. [00:05:02] Speaker C: Yeah, I mean, Yuri Yordo would have gotten this information. And so they are spending time they have not a workshop, not a shed, but it's a little bit more than a shed, not quite a workshop, where they tend to prepare everything. So they are there just gathering stuff to may be useful, maybe some potions. They are filling up a bandolier with shells that are looking like they belong to this strange looking gun that's on the table that they are working on. It has a wooden frame. The arm, the part that goes close to the body, it looks like it has like, a big wedge in it, but maybe that's just for extra stability. Yuri themselves, who are a strong five foot four, they are having everything put in place. They have combat boots on, like, leather pants that are all, like, tucked into the shoes to make sure there's no open skin. This, like a padded leather top and this big leather jacket that goes down with the curtails down to their feet. And they pull back their hair, which is this stark, like, white with these streaks of red going through them. And put gloves over their burgundy skin. Make sure that the hair isn't caught on their horns at all. And they are kind of in the moment just trying to make sure everything is ready to go before they get more hurt than you need to. [00:07:17] Speaker B: Yeah. And gonna jump over to Lou. Where would we find you at this time of day? And I think you've also heard these rumors, probably you've got servants, correct? Technically, no, no. [00:07:35] Speaker A: Sometimes we hire people. [00:07:37] Speaker B: Yeah, sometimes you hire people and you. They come in and clean. [00:07:40] Speaker C: So. [00:07:40] Speaker B: Yeah, that's actually probably where you heard that same rumor from. Is probably one of these people was from coffin walk. And they're becoming very worried about the number of people going missing. [00:07:53] Speaker A: Um, you would find Lou in the process of sneaking out of her house. She is in her room, which is a cluster of just knickknacks and weird, weird stuff. It looks like the room of, like, a gothic teenager Howells moving castle. But the bedroom specifically just plants and shadow boxes with dead bugs in them and lots of cobwebs in the corner that seemed left there on purpose. Knickknacks and weird Rick Ray and just so many oddities. There's like a gilded skull on, like, the mantle and books scattered everywhere. And then Lou herself is in the process of pulling on a bandolier as well. Except instead of having bullets in the bandolier, there are seven belles. And then she has like, an artist, like one of those, like, un entlner artist box, like the big giant wood ones that have a little strap on one shoulder. She's got a chatelaine on the. On her hip with, like, scissors and thin bowl and some little bottles and things hanging from it, probably making a lot of noise. And she has very thick, curly, like, dark pink. Dark pink hair. Like burgundy hair and pink skin. And these little crown white horns that leap from the back of her head to the front. She's wearing glasses and has white freckles everywhere. Once she has grabbed all of her stuff, she opens her window, leaves a note on her, like, bedside. And is climbing out the window. She's not supposed to be leaving. [00:10:00] Speaker B: Yeah, dude, your window's like, on the ground floor, right? You're not like, jumping from like, the second story for this, right? [00:10:07] Speaker A: There's a trellis, obviously. [00:10:10] Speaker B: Obviously. Obviously. A trellis. Yeah. You're gonna climb down that? I was trying to decide how tempted I was to make you make the first roll of the campaign. [00:10:20] Speaker A: It's not her first time climbing down this trellis. I will put it that way. But I will roll if you want me to. [00:10:27] Speaker B: It's fair. [00:10:28] Speaker A: I warn you, it's gonna be a depressing first roll of the campaign. Because athletics are not her thing. [00:10:34] Speaker B: You know what I'd say, like, you're not under any rush to do this. You know, you've done this before, so. Yeah. You won't have to roll for now. [00:10:46] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. She's well practiced. And she's not wearing a skirt. She is wearing pants that sometimes look like a skirt. They got the little flip flop. Look them up. They're a real thing. [00:11:00] Speaker B: Yeah. I guess you are probably heading to find your cousin. [00:11:07] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:11:08] Speaker B: Yeah. And you probably know where their workshop is. I would say. I don't know, dude. That's question dusty. For Dusty. Would Lou know where Yuri's workshop is? [00:11:24] Speaker C: I feel like they would, but I. Maybe it's a thing that you haven't told Yuri that you know that yet. But you've definitely, like, put two and two together. [00:11:38] Speaker A: Not as subtle as you want to be. In which case Lou goes straight there and just slams open the door. Yummy. There's a thing. Go to thick knee. [00:11:50] Speaker C: Yuri, completely surprised, immediately picks up the gun, points it at Lou, realizes who it was. [00:12:04] Speaker A: No, I am all ready to go. I have everything I could possibly need ever. And I wrote a note. So it's like, oh, I'm visiting Yochi for a few days. Don't worry about it. But obviously this is the best place to go. Manstar. [00:12:20] Speaker C: What do you mean by going? You don't have no to. No, no, no, no. [00:12:27] Speaker A: You promised. You promised. You said you take me if it looked like it was easy. And I think this will be easy. [00:12:36] Speaker C: What makes you think this would be easy? [00:12:39] Speaker A: Because I heard of a different cleaning lady. So how can you be just like some missing people. Like, come on. [00:12:54] Speaker C: Yes. They're missing people. [00:12:56] Speaker A: Like goose. Goose. You say goose, you do them in your sleep. We just. We do them in our sleep, except we are awake. [00:13:08] Speaker C: Yuri is. They put the gun on the table and is, like, sitting there, arms folded, and it's just like. Like, not pacing, but they're tapping their foot. They unfortunately know that they did promise. [00:13:27] Speaker A: And I have to save your time. I found one for you. You're welcome. [00:13:33] Speaker C: I was literally headed there already. [00:13:37] Speaker A: See? It is perfect. [00:13:42] Speaker C: Okay, but listen, if you go. You listen to me. No, no, no. You listen to me. [00:13:51] Speaker A: I listen. [00:13:52] Speaker C: Yes. This is. This is not just like a survey. If something's going missing, it could be really bad, and you don't need getting hurt. You get hurt. You know who's getting yelled at? You and me. I don't like hearing from your dad in general. [00:14:10] Speaker B: Okay. [00:14:11] Speaker A: You know, it'd be a nice change of pace for one. So let's do it. [00:14:17] Speaker C: Good lord. All right, well, I see you've at least got proper attire. That's good. Well, they're going to pick up the gun and, like, it has like a. Like a shoulder strap on it and sharpen behind their back and just. Would you like to lead the way, at least? [00:14:47] Speaker A: We have to go. [00:14:51] Speaker B: Yes. You leave your places in. I believe you live in the silver court. Is that correct? Yeah, yeah. You leave your homes in the silver court, traveling across the bridges towards the other side of the city. Malachod is a city that is put against a lake and then split down the middle by the river. You have on the right side, you have the more affluent areas. Most of the temples to the gods of Knox light. And on the left is actually where the city came from, started. That's where some of the oldest buildings in the city are as it grew and expanded to take up all of this space. But most people just kind of ignore that this is all town at this point, especially in these last five years, the other half of the city has seen a lot of problems. You all know of the ghoul outbreak that started almost five years ago. The guards and hunters claim everything is under control, but three districts of the city have been sealed off and there is no word on if or when they will ever be reopened. You pay the small toll to go across the bridge. It's nothing for you. A small couple of coppers. And you pass through salvation row on towards coffin walk. And you know, to move quickly through your salvation row. You don't ever want to stop. Too long there and coffin walk itself. As you enter, you see the valios tenement it is. If this were anywhere else, they would call it a marvel of modern engineering. It is a building that maybe was a castle at some point, something, a large stone building that throughout the years, as more and more people have lived in, it has been segmented and added onto to create an almost frankenstein of a building. You can see all of the various building materials, and it towers high over the district. You see the people, the day workers moving in and out. You know, you feel the malaise. People don't live happy lives here. Still. There's some children kicking around a what is probably the best thing they could make into a ball. You see some people doing laundry, laying their clothes on the line, even though there really isn't all that much of a sun to dry them anymore. What little heat they get from the eclipse during the day sometimes. Does it? If not, it's me dealing with kind of wet clothes. And it doesn't help that it rains a lot here either. But people make do. I'm gonna actually call for the first roll now of a perception roll from the both of you. [00:18:40] Speaker C: Ooh. It's a dual first roll of the game. [00:18:46] Speaker A: I'm using the one doomy dice that survives to the new dice palette. Perception, you say? [00:18:56] Speaker B: Perception. [00:18:58] Speaker A: Wait, I should have my skills in here by now, right? Okay. Yeah. Rolled so bad. Okay, cool. That's gonna be a 16 from me. [00:19:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:19:12] Speaker B: Sixteen's not. Not horrible, actually. All right, we're baby. [00:19:16] Speaker A: We're babies. Level 20. Yeah, you're right. [00:19:18] Speaker B: You're right. [00:19:18] Speaker A: I have to reassess what numbers mean again. [00:19:22] Speaker C: Well, I'd say maybe I'm a little distracted because of Lou? Because I got a twelve. [00:19:29] Speaker B: Yeah. And honestly, with the. The amount of people moving in and out, it's hard to tell much of anything. But, Lou, you spot someone. You spot this person in this hellboy hat and a long, like, a long dark jacket, talking to somebody that's outside of the. Outside of the building. And as they seem to finish up this conversation, you watch as he clasps this man's hand and shakes it. And you can kind of see as he pulls away, he has slipped a couple of coins, a couple of gold coins into his hand. This man turns around, looks to be human, has kind of like, very salt and pepper hair and beard. You know, kind of like, rubs at the beard and, like, looks around and, like, starts to, like, walk off in a direction. [00:20:42] Speaker C: Um, Aubrey. So does Yurito have a contact by chance here that there's like, maybe have an idea to meet. [00:20:57] Speaker B: Um. I will say, yeah, you can have a contact here, someone to meet you. Your contact is. It's not all that much of a. A title, but you know that Isaac Grimm is supposedly the senator for this district. He is part of a council of twelve. Not that most people listen to him. He had been talking for weeks about people going missing and couldn't get hunters, couldn't get the coin guard anyone over here to take a look at it, so. Starting to turn towards mercenaries to see the person that this cowboy was talking to, not Isaac. But you do know that Isaac does live nearby in a slightly nicer house. [00:22:04] Speaker C: Yeah, I think amongst the hustle and bustle you're able to do and just stay close. We're. I think we should talk to maybe the senator here. They have an idea of what's going on. [00:22:21] Speaker A: That is a good idea. But also before we do, check out that guy's hat. Got a cowboy hat. He's not a cowboy. [00:22:32] Speaker C: Could be a cowboy. That's a good hat, though. Maybe I should get one, right? [00:22:38] Speaker A: It's a really good hat. He was, like, taking a bribe or something earlier. [00:22:43] Speaker C: Or be a new bribe. [00:22:44] Speaker A: I don't really know. Doesn't matter. [00:22:47] Speaker C: Take a mental note of that. Maybe that's something to look into. [00:22:54] Speaker A: Doesn't mean everyone be bribes. Aussie tango. [00:22:58] Speaker C: Yes, but it doesn't mean it's still good. Just because everyone's doing it doesn't mean, like, it has to be okay. [00:23:03] Speaker A: Oh, no, the family does it all the time. [00:23:07] Speaker C: Oh, yes, I know, I know. All right, almost. Let's go and like to turn to the slightly nicer house here. [00:23:20] Speaker B: Yeah, the house that in the district is reserved for the senator. It's. He gets to live in it with his family, but not that much nicer than anything else. You knock on the door and your contact, Isaac opens the opens. He's an elf. That he is a very old elf. His hair has gone completely gray. Yeah, he's been around for a while. He looks to you, sees you, and just goes, oh, thank God you're here. [00:23:58] Speaker C: Come. [00:23:58] Speaker B: Come on in. I don't have much, but I can make some tea and we can discuss what's going on here. [00:24:09] Speaker C: I'm okay. [00:24:12] Speaker B: Yeah? [00:24:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:24:13] Speaker B: And it leads you into a sitting room with some very red, bare furniture. [00:24:21] Speaker C: Uh, Mister Grimm, do you have an idea of where maybe this is originating from? [00:24:29] Speaker B: Um, I. I'm not sure. It's. There's some stories going around of people out late at night feeling like someone's watching them. Uh, seems to be mostly people coming home late at night from jobs that are going missing. A couple of people have. You know that there's a lot of houses here that are. That are not in good enough shape for anyone to live in. Try to have some people keep watch on those. Some people say that they feel like when they pass them, somebody's watching them. [00:25:16] Speaker C: Well, um. Did someone go missing recently? [00:25:24] Speaker B: Yes. Um, a, um. A dwarven woman. I wish I remembered her name. But she went missing two nights ago. It was the last one to go missing. And then I. I kind of had it with. Everyone's just stonewalling me. And that's when I reached out to you. Thank you for coming as quickly as you did. [00:25:50] Speaker C: Yeah. Maybe I'll go check out the place they were missing and see if we could find anything there. The sooner we could take care of this, clearly the better. [00:26:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. Um. I mean, I. I don't hunt monsters. Any. Any information I have, I'm more than happy to share. [00:26:21] Speaker C: I. Besides, like the missing person, there was no. I don't know, marks, fur, blood, broken items. That seems like, incredibly out of place. [00:26:36] Speaker A: Just like, taking notes of, like, everything. Yuri says she has a little pencil on her chateau that she's, like, writing on. [00:26:47] Speaker B: Not much. No traces of whatever this thing is people described. Just this overwhelming feeling of fear and like somebody was watching them. [00:27:06] Speaker C: Would this sound familiar to Yuri at all? [00:27:10] Speaker B: Why don't you give me a believe you have a monster lore. [00:27:18] Speaker C: That is? Wow. That's a 19 on the dice. So it's gonna be a 23. [00:27:24] Speaker B: You do know of quite a few things that steal people away. There are so many stories about Fae and other kind of creatures that steal people away. Could be one of those. Sense of fear. Could be some sort of creature that feeds off of that. There could be quite a few options. It's hard to narrow it down, but bring your silver. You're pretty sure on that part. [00:27:58] Speaker C: Yeah. And I think Yuri would say this, though. I mean, it could be fae. There are creatures that specifically. Fetal fear take people away. Hard to narrow down with this little information, but of course, we have no witnesses to see. So I think I will go to the last scene where someone got lost and go from there. [00:28:25] Speaker B: And Isaac will look at you and just be like. And whatever I can gather up, I will. You can deal with this. We'll pay you. And just please keep my people safe. [00:28:42] Speaker C: Of course. Yuri's gonna stand up and start heading to the store and turn around and just look at Graham again and just also maybe stock up on silver weaponry, just. Just in case. [00:28:56] Speaker B: We'll see what I can do. It's, uh. Silver's a little expensive. [00:29:02] Speaker C: I'll see if I can help after this. And Yuri walks out and motions for Lou to follow them. [00:29:09] Speaker A: Lou turns back to the senator room. And it's just like so wonderful thing to do. [00:29:16] Speaker B: You as well. You too, kind of as you do. Grimm just sort of collapses back in the chair just looking tired. [00:29:35] Speaker C: Once they're outside and taking a couple steps in front of Grimm's place, Yuri is going to like gently grab Lou's shoulder. And just now Lou, this is seeming it could be more dangerous than you anticipated. Are you sure there's nothing wrong with going back home? This is something that I could deal with alone. [00:29:57] Speaker A: I'm so sure. Look, I am not abs I have ever pain. I have just some bits and bobs that I think will be helpful depending on what it is. And different bits and bobs will be helpful. But I have both and also others and then some backups, just in case. And then a few other things, just in case. So, you know, I am super effective. I've been reading for like weeks, obviously. I've been reading for years. I have been studying for years. But I have recently been reading things that seem appropriate to the situation at that time for weeks. And so I'm ready. I'm ready. And also, if I go back and think about at this point, I think I will explode. [00:30:44] Speaker C: Yuri sighs a little, Benji. Okay. You work on that. [00:30:48] Speaker A: Because every other organization in the entire city has said no to me. That's not mean I am not capable. I'm so capable. [00:30:57] Speaker C: I know you're capable. But of doesn't mean I want you in danger. [00:31:02] Speaker A: Single is a dangerous fun. If it wasn't, you would not do it so much. [00:31:12] Speaker C: I don't think this is as fun as you think it is, dear. Just. Okay, just look, stay close. As long as you're with me, I'll do everything I can to help protect you. Okay? [00:31:27] Speaker A: Harry, I am going to be the one protecting you. You're fine. [00:31:33] Speaker C: Well, let's go to this place and see what we could find and we'll head over. [00:31:39] Speaker B: Yeah. You're given directions to this block of buildings that used to be businesses and homes. But you can see windows broken in, doors with xs painted on them, and places where floors and roofs have given out. This is a part of the city that is just falling apart. [00:32:16] Speaker C: Yuri would have like unholstered her rifle and doesn't have it like fully like aimed. They're kind of like holding it low so it's not like pointing at anyone. And it's just trying to keep like an eye just around them just to see like any, any kind of things that look more out of place than like a dilapidated city would. [00:32:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Um, I think now is a great time for another perception roll. For those of you looking around and trying to see what you notice. [00:33:04] Speaker A: I felt so good with this day. [00:33:07] Speaker B: Not two days ago. [00:33:10] Speaker A: 14. [00:33:11] Speaker B: Oh, uh, I got an 18 1418. You notice that there's a building nearby that was burned. You both rolled high enough to notice this. And there are footprints of someone who've walked through the ashes. And sort of, you watch as they head down another alley. Seems fairly recent, actually. [00:33:46] Speaker C: Yuri would, like, stop and kind of point out that to Lou and just eyes up. Okay. Gonna like go towards where the footsteps are walking. [00:34:00] Speaker A: 1 second. And Lou's going to take like a little vial and collect some of the ash out of like the center of the footstep. And just keep that for later. [00:34:11] Speaker C: No, you do it. [00:34:14] Speaker A: They could be an awesomeness. You know how good that is? You can get a lot of cool stuff out of that. [00:34:21] Speaker B: Okay. [00:34:21] Speaker C: Okay. No, you're. You're right. Okay. And we'll start heading over. Let them raise just slightly more, but still, like not aimed at anyone. [00:34:34] Speaker A: I think Lou will unbuckle the smallest bell from her bandolier and just pull it out, but keep it so it doesn't ring with her fingers hooked on the inside. [00:34:49] Speaker B: So you follow these footsteps through some of the alley is weaving between building. And eventually you get to a point where it's a dead end. And at the. You're at the sort of like the head of this alley. And at the dead end there is cowboy hat. And he is sort of like hunched over, like looking at something. You can't see exactly what he's looking at. And you know, you're too far away to tell, but he's probably muttering to himself. [00:35:27] Speaker C: You're just gonna like slow their approach and just again, like weapons still out. Just. Hey, friend, you okay over there? Strange place to be taking a rest. [00:35:46] Speaker B: And so you watch as like sort of puts his hands out, sort of show like, don't got anything. And we'll just say, I mean, it's a strange little mystery y'all got here. [00:36:14] Speaker C: What do you mean by that? [00:36:16] Speaker B: And he's gonna like sort of slowly stand up and step out of the way. And you see what he was looking at was a desiccated dwarven corpse. [00:36:34] Speaker C: Ah. Ah. Yuri looks at that and looks at cowboy hand just, well, not so missing anymore. What. What were you doing looking for them? [00:36:56] Speaker B: Well, there are rats. Haven't gotten to her yet, so. [00:37:02] Speaker A: You. [00:37:03] Speaker B: Know, I go here and there. I am a collector of strangers stories and things. You know, y'all could call me whiskey. [00:37:18] Speaker A: We want to. [00:37:21] Speaker B: Well, you can call me whiskey. Or more friendly people. Just call me Jack. [00:37:27] Speaker A: That is a very inventive name. [00:37:32] Speaker C: All right. [00:37:33] Speaker B: I like my whiskey. What can I say? [00:37:35] Speaker C: Mm hmm. You. You lou. Is this the person I was taking a bribe earlier or the person was giving a bribe? I forget. [00:37:52] Speaker A: Uh, using surprise. He passed the money over. [00:37:57] Speaker C: Who were you bribing for? What? [00:38:00] Speaker B: Oh, just some old man who, uh, I think saw whatever the fuck did this to this last year. [00:38:11] Speaker C: And you were keeping them quiet? [00:38:16] Speaker B: No, he gave. He gave me information, so I gave him some money. [00:38:20] Speaker C: I see, I see, I see. [00:38:22] Speaker B: Makes the world go around. And people are more, much less likely to lie to ya if money's on the table. [00:38:30] Speaker A: That is so true. I mean, unless they wanted more money, in which case they might lie anyway. [00:38:39] Speaker C: Also true. Well, whiskey, can you tell exactly what did this? We're kind of here to stop. [00:38:50] Speaker B: It kind of nudges, uh, the corpse with the boot. Sort of like flips it over because it's on its side, and, like, now it's on its back and just goes, whatever done it, it sucked the soul right out of her. [00:39:09] Speaker A: Does the corpse look freshly desoled? Does he look particularly safe? Is it whiskey? That's what I want to know. What can I roll to see if his vibes are bad? I like his hat, though. [00:39:27] Speaker B: So why don't we make an esoteric lore check? Ooh, esoteric, I do believe. Yeah. No, give me. Give me an esoteric lore. I was like, does it need to be secret? Uh, you know, it's just. [00:39:51] Speaker A: I just. That was a mistake. [00:39:53] Speaker B: Mm hmm. [00:39:54] Speaker A: That's a nine. I wrote a one. [00:39:56] Speaker B: A nine? Uh. Mmm. You can't tell as far as you. Far as you can tell, that's just a dude. Just a guy. [00:40:05] Speaker A: Just dude. [00:40:08] Speaker B: He doesn't look like it. Looks like he's had a hard couple of nights drinking. If anything. [00:40:17] Speaker C: You know, I have lied to me. I've been already talking to him. Could I see if they've been lying to me about anything? [00:40:37] Speaker B: Sure. Yeah. What kind of check is that? [00:40:40] Speaker C: That, let's see. It's you use. I do. You have to be my deception. DC. [00:40:50] Speaker B: You think that they're telling as much of the truth as they feel like in this moment, they're not lying. They did not kill this person. But, you know, maybe not all information comes for free. [00:41:12] Speaker C: Well, if. Sorry, did you say how like recent this body looks like? Last night, day aboard 3 hours ago. [00:41:29] Speaker B: It is hard. Like if of you would like to make a medicine check to like. Actually, yeah, you can give me a medicine check. [00:41:38] Speaker A: Let's go. Let's throw better. So that would be a 14 because I can't roll above ten. [00:41:55] Speaker B: I mean, 14 is still pretty good. You're relatively sure that this person died in the last day? It's really hard to tell because as you get like closer, you like kind of touch them. Their skin is like very papery and crumbly. It is literally like they're an empty capri sun. [00:42:18] Speaker C: Well whiskey. Now you got this information. What you gonna do now? [00:42:27] Speaker B: Haven't decided rightly, um, no one's particularly paying me to look into this. So it was, uh, more of a personal curiosity. [00:42:41] Speaker C: Strange curiosities you have. [00:42:44] Speaker B: I'm a collector of the strange and unusual. [00:42:48] Speaker A: Ah, me too. Gonna say this is not so weird. We do this all the time. [00:42:57] Speaker C: Well, um, we are going to look for this. If you be kind enough to go tell Senator Grimm that someone's soul has gone missing amongst all this, it'll be appreciated. [00:43:18] Speaker B: Looks between you all and nods and just goes for your kindness of not shooting me. Give you something on the house. I think this here thing that's doing it is quite possibly a bogey. They do like to do that, uh, soul suck. [00:43:46] Speaker C: Great. Lovely. [00:43:52] Speaker B: Keep your silver close at hand. Mm hmm, mm hmm. [00:43:56] Speaker C: Don't worry about that. Yuri's gonna like at the side of the gun. [00:44:02] Speaker B: And hey, if you, uh, ever see me around again after this, uh, want to do business, let me know. Trade in many things. Gold items, secrets. And just kind of like starts walking backwards. Also, you notice he does not appear to be armed. [00:44:25] Speaker C: Bold old choice. Yuri, as they're watches them walking by, will not take their eyes off them until they're like they're out of the side and just. Well, keep that in mind. [00:44:38] Speaker A: Museum jack. Do you sell your hat? [00:44:44] Speaker B: My hat? [00:44:45] Speaker A: Wait. [00:44:48] Speaker B: What about it? [00:44:50] Speaker A: Can I buy it? [00:44:53] Speaker B: Well, depends. You? I'm rather partial to this hat. Um, I would let it go for, uh, a particularly juicy secret. [00:45:12] Speaker A: I can give you something better than this grit. And she hands, uh, holds out the little vial of ash and says, you want to collect a strange thing. So you should know the footsteps of quite interesting. You ever need to get somewhere in the area. [00:45:34] Speaker B: Well, uh, take a look at it. You know, move up to you and take a look on it and just go. Hmm. Now, I can't tempt you into selling a secret. [00:45:55] Speaker A: I unfortunately have. Mystic rats were selling island. What's it called? An open book? [00:46:01] Speaker B: No, I don't believe that one bit. [00:46:04] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. No. No secrets for selling. Jack. Lou, we should figure out more about this before we are intact in broad day. Whiskey. So good to meet you. We must be going. We'll talk about your hat another day. [00:46:23] Speaker B: It's not going anywhere. Uh, we can, uh, pick up this conversation another time over, uh, drinks. See me again. Drink on me. [00:46:35] Speaker A: Okay, ugly. [00:46:37] Speaker C: Sold. [00:46:40] Speaker B: And, uh, he heads off, leaving you with the body. [00:46:46] Speaker C: Fun. One of us probably knows what a bogey is in character, right? Who reads, I hunt. [00:46:57] Speaker B: I'd say it's. You're relatively sure. A bogey is a relatively minor fae. You know, all in all, they like to kidnap and torment. And then at the end of it, uh, uh, devour the soul. They don't like silver. [00:47:20] Speaker C: Would, um, all the previous attacks, were they at night? [00:47:26] Speaker B: Yes. [00:47:27] Speaker C: Okay, um, Lou is gonna be standing. [00:47:32] Speaker B: Not. [00:47:32] Speaker C: Ooh, Yuri is, uh, now I think maybe, like, walk back out of the alley, just so they're not near the body. Just. We'll have to tell they don't tell Graham. I don't know if they're going to let them know that we found the body all the previous. [00:47:51] Speaker A: They'll get paid for it. [00:47:55] Speaker C: All the previous attacks were at night. Maybe we should stick out a little. [00:48:05] Speaker A: Not going to like. [00:48:09] Speaker C: I already don't. [00:48:12] Speaker A: So we know what it is. We know probably not that we know what it is. How to deal with. So I think it would make a smart decision, even if you want to like it, to have one of us put baits and the other one be ready for an ambush. No, don't leave me a look. Don't do it. You know it's a good idea. [00:48:38] Speaker C: The look is already there. Stop, Lou. I did not. [00:48:45] Speaker A: I didn't say it to be me. It just makes more sense to be me. Look. I look so easy to have my soul sucked out. I am such a lost lamb in this terrible pathogie city. Come eat my soul. It is so innocent. [00:49:09] Speaker C: Oh, good. Do you have even. Did you even bring anything to fight with? [00:49:17] Speaker A: Yes, I always said I did. I have a weapon. I have the bells. Do you think they are here for fun? Do you think I'm going to be doing some change or anything else they're for fighting? Sort of. Mostly. Also, I have some spells. Don't worry about it. [00:49:37] Speaker C: Okay? I choose the place. Also, um, it would probably be fair to say that, like, Yuri would have, like, a silver knife on them, right? [00:49:49] Speaker B: Yeah. I would say it's fair for fair that you have one in your line of work. [00:49:55] Speaker A: It would also be fair to say that Lou has something silver. She collects bits and bobs of anything and comes from a previously wealthy family. It seems absurd she would not have one silver item on her. [00:50:10] Speaker B: Sure, yeah. I'll give you a silver dagger. Oh, yeah. [00:50:13] Speaker A: No, that's more than I was expecting. [00:50:14] Speaker C: Well, I think Yuri would do is like, from, like, behind their back, they have one. They pull out a silver knife, turn it around so the handle is facing you, and just keep this on you. I'm gonna be keeping an eye on you. This thing has silver bullets. [00:50:31] Speaker A: Just don't worry. I also have silver shader, and I can make some dark ripple to it. [00:50:43] Speaker C: It's a terrible idea, but practicing being bait, what does that mean? [00:50:53] Speaker A: I have been practicing ruining people's taste. [00:51:02] Speaker C: Okay, let's find one of these abandoned houses. I'll get an advantage board, and we'll wait till nightfall. I can't believe they allowed you to come along. [00:51:19] Speaker A: This is a great idea. In night. [00:51:24] Speaker B: Deepest of sighs so it's pretty easy to find a place where you can just sort of hole up and night is. It's always a little weird to say when night begins, when you're in a constant state of eclipse. But it's not long now until true darkness takes hold and you are all in. Coffin walk only has a couple areas where the lamplighters will cast their magic. And you are in an area that falls to pure darkness. There is no magical light around here. As you're posted up, I imagine, what, blue on the street and Yuri in one of the buildings or something? [00:52:21] Speaker C: Either on the street or, like, per se. There's like, a building with a collapsed roof that there's, like, open to the nightlight. [00:52:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:32] Speaker C: And Lou maybe just on the first floor hanging out. And Yuri either on the roof, like, looking in, or on, like, on the second floor looking in. So they could jump down. [00:52:45] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:45] Speaker A: Is there, like, any way we know to, like, draw it to us? Because it could technically go anywhere. But do we like, like, oh, if we put this out, then it'll be like, what's that? Sniff it out or something. [00:53:01] Speaker B: I mean, I think you have what it wants. Souls. [00:53:06] Speaker A: There's a lot of people with souls around here. [00:53:09] Speaker C: I actually don't think there's a lot. [00:53:12] Speaker B: You are in an area of coffin walk that is pretty much empty. It's all of these old abandoned buildings. And currently with especially people going missing, more likely than not, Isaac is going to make sure people stay indoors, keep to the well lit areas. And I mean, tonight is. Is even worse for it because it's a cloudy night, so you don't even have starlight to go by. There's the. The vague, you know, light of the moons from behind the clouds, but that's kind of it. [00:53:51] Speaker A: I think we both have darkvision. Question mark. [00:53:56] Speaker C: I should. [00:53:57] Speaker B: It's fetchlings. [00:53:58] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:53:58] Speaker B: You both have dark vision, so you can kind of see in like a grayscale. [00:54:03] Speaker A: Who needs color? [00:54:11] Speaker C: Yeah. Yuri would be keeping an eye out. Basically weapon at the ready. Doing a thing where they have their weapon rays and the finger on the barrel of the weapon, not over the trigger, just so they're within a hair's breath of aiming and firing. And also could jump down right after that kind of stuff. [00:54:39] Speaker A: I think Lou is just going to. To make a lot of noise. I think that she just draws like four of her bells and she just starts changing out interesting patterns. Nothing behind them. It's just noise just to draw more attention to their area. Unless I know that that would not do it. Unless that would have the opposite effect. [00:55:07] Speaker B: I want. No, your ozone for sure might have the effect you want. [00:55:11] Speaker A: Okay, great. Then we will be doing that. [00:55:16] Speaker B: You go for a while doing this. It's probably getting close to like 09:00 p.m. You know, it's night night at this point. And you hear probably coming from. Yeah, it sounds like a couple houses down. There seems to be a house that is still relatively standing. You hear what sounds like voices. [00:56:02] Speaker A: Like normal voices or like monster voices. [00:56:08] Speaker B: Give me a perception check. [00:56:10] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, that's a big number. Yay. Please. That is going to be. Oh, shoot. What's my perception? Um, 24. [00:56:32] Speaker B: 24. [00:56:34] Speaker C: I got a unnatural 20. [00:56:36] Speaker B: So you both can tell there is something weird about these voices. Because you hear the voices, they're not making intelligible words. It's like, you know, if you were to do. Just to have a strange metaphor that the audience will understand. It is like when you're doing sound design and you have background voices and then suddenly you take a listen to those background voices and they're not saying anything, you're going like watermelon. Watermelon. Watermelon. [00:57:06] Speaker C: Watermelon sugar. Um. I think you're a now to lose like. Like in a stress whisper. Just no eyes up. Be careful. They're near. [00:57:20] Speaker A: I am so ready. Okay. Also. I also hear it. [00:57:30] Speaker C: I think, at least for the time being, Yuri is going to keep to their purge. As long as Lou doesn't go anywhere. [00:57:40] Speaker A: Lu's gonna go to the door and just look out and see if she can see it coming or any sign of it. [00:57:52] Speaker B: You don't see anything out there. It's. You still hear the voices coming from a couple houses down, but you don't see anything. If you look at the house, there's no lights in the windows. [00:58:12] Speaker A: I give the bell, like, a couple rings just to see if the voices react at all. Like, get quiet, get louder, come towards us. [00:58:23] Speaker B: No, they seem to be staying where they are for now. [00:58:28] Speaker A: Yay. We have to go after it. And she just starts walking in the direction. [00:58:34] Speaker C: Ooh. I think. I think Yuri would have been on the roof. So now they're going to, like, try to scramble to the other side of the roof that's facing the street. [00:58:50] Speaker B: As. [00:58:51] Speaker C: Fast as they can, I guess, without making as much noise. That doesn't sound like a roll, right? No, no, I think. [00:59:01] Speaker B: I think for now, you're. You don't have to roll. [00:59:03] Speaker C: Okay, cool, cool, cool, cool. [00:59:05] Speaker B: So Lou. [00:59:05] Speaker A: Lou is making lots of noise on purpose, though. [00:59:08] Speaker B: She wants to make noise. You come to this house and you can hear the unintelligible voices as you approach the house. They quiet down. [00:59:23] Speaker A: Knock, knock. Hello. Ya yo, I guess kill you. [00:59:30] Speaker C: Yuri has jumped off the roof. Now they're on the street. [00:59:36] Speaker B: And as you knock on the door, you kind of hear the sound of the. Like the knob turning and then the squeak of the door opening. [00:59:48] Speaker A: That's not what I was expecting. Okay. [00:59:57] Speaker B: You see into a empty room, sort of a sitting area that probably was at some point. Furniture is long gone or destroyed or stolen. And there are steps leading up to a second level of some kind. And it is at that moment you hear the sound of something. It sounds like somebody's walking up the steps. [01:00:24] Speaker A: Oh, I don't suppose you'd like to come outside, maybe. Outside is so nice right now. It's so dark and scary. And also, my cousin will kill me if I go inside. But also, you're inside. [01:00:47] Speaker C: Yuri is walking closer as this is happening. [01:00:51] Speaker A: Yo, here. Went upstairs. [01:00:55] Speaker C: Um, yeah. Then Yuri was like, okay, um, do not go inside. I'm gonna go inside. [01:01:06] Speaker A: Look, you cannot go inside. The sense. [01:01:12] Speaker C: No, I'm not letting you go inside. [01:01:14] Speaker A: You cannot go inside by yourself. What if there's more than one? Did you think about that. There could be more than one. There could be three. Yes. [01:01:22] Speaker C: No, I've. I've done this before. Okay, this is getting much too dangerous. [01:01:30] Speaker A: Have you considered they are not all in house? You know, I'm not. Go ahead. I'll stay out here. It's fine. I'm sure they never do ambushes. Also, they're probably too foolish to do something like that. Just weird. [01:01:56] Speaker C: How do you become so, like, good at being so pushy when you're not? Any other time, you will stand right behind me. Okay. I actually think since they're going inside the house, Yuri, and with a quick motion, is going to kind of like where the trigger of the gun is. They are going to pull back on, like, there's, like, the guard underneath it and flip it up, and it's going to flip back into the handle as the rest. I was where the shoulder hint, the big block thing juts out to an axe. And so they're going to hold that in their hand and walk inside first. [01:02:59] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just gonna kind of move her, like, jacket out of the way and unhook a whip in one hand and then keep two bells in the other hand. [01:03:13] Speaker B: Are you doing this stealthily, heading up the stairs? [01:03:18] Speaker C: As stealthy as we could be, they. [01:03:21] Speaker A: Already know we're here. We've been having a conversation next to outdated. I don't know if you thought we're making noise up and down the block. [01:03:28] Speaker C: For, like, you're at this point. At this point, we do want them to know we're here, actually. Yeah, so, yeah, no. [01:03:36] Speaker B: So you both head up the stairs into the second level. It's probably was a bedroom of some kind. It overlooks the street. There is a door that was probably a closet or a washroom of some kind. And as you step onto the landing of this room. I need a will save from the both of you. [01:04:06] Speaker C: Oh, dear. Oh, dear. [01:04:08] Speaker A: I know. Oh, good. I real good, because I don't know what my will say. [01:04:15] Speaker C: He wouldn't happen to have hero points in this? [01:04:18] Speaker B: Kind of like you've got a hero point? Yeah. [01:04:21] Speaker A: I am expert in will save 25. What'd you get? Wait, why do you use the hero point, Dusty? [01:04:30] Speaker C: Well, I got a three on the dice. No, no, that's so with an eleven, that total is gonna be 19. [01:04:39] Speaker B: So it is luckily only a failure from the both of you. [01:04:45] Speaker A: What. [01:04:47] Speaker B: So you both become frightened. One. [01:04:51] Speaker A: You said this was second level. You said the numbers were small. [01:04:59] Speaker B: You both got real close. [01:05:01] Speaker A: 25 is close. Jeez. [01:05:04] Speaker B: Yeah, it's not a critical failure. Concern was real close to a critical failure. [01:05:17] Speaker A: Me desperately going through my feet, like, where's Dumisa's things for this very situation? Where is it? [01:05:26] Speaker C: Okay, frightened one. Cool. Do we see anything in this room? [01:05:32] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:05:34] Speaker B: As you are looking around, the door to what I guess appears to be a closet opens and you hear a voice that says, I love it when. [01:05:51] Speaker C: The food comes to me. [01:05:54] Speaker B: And out of this closet steps this large creature with a almost technicolor coat, long clawed hands, massive teeth. This isn't a bogey. This is the bogeyman. [01:06:21] Speaker C: Fear. Jpeg. Oh, yeah, yeah, no. Okay, cool, cool, cool, cool. [01:06:30] Speaker A: Oh, wow. I didn't know he was gay. [01:06:35] Speaker B: Good for him. [01:06:37] Speaker A: For him. [01:06:39] Speaker B: And you know what? We're gonna roll initiative. [01:06:45] Speaker C: Okay. [01:06:46] Speaker B: I thought this might take a minute. [01:06:49] Speaker C: All right, cool, cool. We're gonna just. [01:06:53] Speaker A: Hero points in this game, right? [01:06:55] Speaker B: Yeah, you have a hero point. Dusty spent the hero point, unfortunately. [01:06:59] Speaker A: Wait, we had one collectively. Oh, I'm like, what do you. Wait, that's not fair. Okay. I just also spent mine. Maybe I should have saved it. I don't know. But I rolled a once, so it seems like a good time to use it. [01:07:14] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. [01:07:15] Speaker A: Um. Is this perception? Geez, I haven't played Pathfinder in a long time. [01:07:23] Speaker C: Yes. Oh, yeah. I should totally have monster lore. I just didn't add it to my sheet. Cool. [01:07:33] Speaker A: Okay, let's go. 20. 30. [01:07:39] Speaker B: 23. [01:07:40] Speaker A: No, dirty 20. [01:07:42] Speaker B: Dirty 20. Okay. [01:07:43] Speaker C: No. Also, um. Oh, no, I'm frightened one. So 19. [01:07:53] Speaker B: So your brand new friend gets to go first. And they're going to spend their first action to cross the room to Yuri. And you watch as they bring in this clawed hand to strike you. [01:08:30] Speaker C: No. Thank you. [01:08:33] Speaker B: For 33. [01:08:40] Speaker A: Aubrey. We're not gods anymore. We can't go to prison if we're dead. [01:08:53] Speaker B: So I'm gonna say that his first. This attack will take you unconscious. [01:08:58] Speaker A: Jesus. [01:09:01] Speaker B: That is more than your health that I just rolled. [01:09:07] Speaker C: Good fucking lord. All right. Yeah. I don't have anything out of the identification notes. Study weakness. I'm fucking down. [01:09:20] Speaker A: Right? [01:09:21] Speaker C: All right. Yeah, Yuri. Yuri gets, like, fucking slammed into the wall or some shit. I don't know. [01:09:29] Speaker B: Yeah, you just get hit with this, and it's. This creature is. And just for he's got one more action, he just turns to you, Lou, and just smiles and shows you all of those pointed teeth. I will say it is your turn. It is not looking great right now. [01:10:01] Speaker A: Oh, really, really hungry. It's not looking good. [01:10:05] Speaker B: It's not looking great, so. [01:10:15] Speaker A: Okay. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Lose freaking ass. I've never actually been in a fight. All of her confidence came from being with her cousin. [01:10:32] Speaker B: Mm hmm. I'm just gonna slide this across. And, I mean, I don't know if Louis aware of all of the things that she has. There is something that. You're desperate. You're desperate enough to, like, dig down the. [01:10:57] Speaker A: Yes. I think that Lou sees her cousin dry drop, and, like, she has these eyes that are very similar to a bearded vulture, which is, like, red sclera and, like, these white irises. And I think the red just sort of fills them a little bit. And you see this, like, red color start to spread up her horns, and feathers just start to sprout, like, at her neck and along her arms. As she honestly fully unaware that she's done anything, she's just very literally seeing red narrowed in on Yuri. And she gets these very long claws, and, yeah, it's gonna change shape, and, yeah, and I was gonna do something tactical, but I don't think she would think to do that. Stomachage. Who needs it? It's time to melee the boogeyman. This is ridiculous. Um, yeah, she's just gonna attack straight up. Um, leaving, like, this stream of feathers, like, these blood red feathers that just kind of trail behind her as she goes. As they're, like, sprouting faster than then, like, they can stay in the body, and every time, like, they push through the skin, there's, like, a little burst of blood as it, like, breaks the skin open. Would be really gross to actually witness, but Yuri's unconscious, so it's fine. And I guess I'm gonna attack. I don't do a lot of damage like this, but that's okay. Wait, what's my to hit like this? That's such a great question. Look, it doesn't tell me. Is it just an unarmed attack? [01:13:22] Speaker B: I believe so. [01:13:25] Speaker A: Maybe don't click on things. You're gonna make my character sheet go away. Well, I rolled real bad. It's very narratively unsatisfying. That's a nice nine then. [01:13:40] Speaker B: It's a nine. You are freaking out, you're panicking, all of that. And it's just. I mean, you still have a couple more actions, if I think. But it's one action to change. Or is it a free action to change? [01:13:55] Speaker A: Technically, it's an initiative action, but, like, that's voluntary. [01:14:00] Speaker B: Yeah. And you've got the one action. She still have one action left. [01:14:06] Speaker A: Um. What a great time to use battle medicine or route to life or any of those things or even ring a bell, but. Nope, nope, nope, nope. We're just gonna. Dag again. Um, I don't even know if I'm trained in unarmed attack. That's really bad. I don't think it matters. [01:14:34] Speaker B: You are trained. [01:14:35] Speaker A: Am I? Okay, great. That's a twelve. Whoo. [01:14:38] Speaker B: Twelve. Yeah, you're just. You're not doing anything against this creature. And it just continues to smile, knowing that you are next. [01:14:49] Speaker A: Honestly, I think she's kind of past the point of fear right now. She's also very unaware of what's happening. [01:14:55] Speaker C: Mm hmm. [01:14:56] Speaker A: I mean, she knows, but also, she doesn't know. There's something very feral happening here. [01:15:02] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, and it would be Yuri's turn if they were not unconscious. [01:15:08] Speaker C: They're unconscious. [01:15:10] Speaker B: I'm not gonna make your old death saves in a prologue. [01:15:15] Speaker A: Can you imagine? We roll up to session one. Like, what up? We. We have brand new characters. Aubrey killed us in the prologue. Backup character time, baby. [01:15:27] Speaker C: Well, that's good, because my first roll was a five just to see, so. [01:15:32] Speaker B: But it's the end of the round. But before the bogeyman can go, there is this crashing sound as this. You hear the crack of a gun, the crashing. And this shining projectile comes through the window, impacts the Pokemon, and lets out a massive flash of bright light. And you, Lou, I need you to give me a four digit save. And then suddenly, you hear the sound of multiple sets of feet. [01:16:20] Speaker A: That's gonna be so bad. I've rolled so many. No way. I haven't rolled sevens. I've had a lot of plus sevens. That is gonna be a eleven. I think she, like, turns towards the new threat and just, like, starts trying to. To lash out at it as well. Like, there's nothing. [01:16:41] Speaker B: Yeah, it's just instinct right now. Yeah, you are. You are completely blinded at this point by this bright light. And you hear the. You hear the voice of the bogeyman say, this is not over. And it sounds like he retreats. And then, Lou, you're a hit on the head by something heavy and bulky, and the world kind of goes dark. The last thing you hear before it all goes, you hear a voice say, captain Gore, we'll want to take a look at this one. And that'll bring us to the end of our first prologue. [01:17:44] Speaker C: Oh, Yuri's gonna have such a headache. Yeah. [01:17:50] Speaker A: We, uh. We both failed step one. [01:17:57] Speaker B: Well. [01:18:03] Speaker A: I don't realize Aubrey's gonna be like, oh, yeah, it's just a little minor fae. And then hit us with a level 20 beastie boy. What? [01:18:14] Speaker B: It's only level seven. [01:18:16] Speaker C: Only. Only? [01:18:21] Speaker B: Yep. [01:18:23] Speaker A: I mean, we knew we were gonna lose, but, I mean, I figured we were gonna lose both anyway. [01:18:27] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. [01:18:28] Speaker A: But I didn't expect us to go up against something that was rolling thirties at this level in the prologue. [01:18:37] Speaker B: It also rolled really well. [01:18:39] Speaker C: My Ac. Because I'm frightened with 16. [01:18:43] Speaker B: Yep. But yes, I'm going to wrap this up real quick and say I hope you all are enjoying this so far.
